27-year-old Katie Boulter set a new career-high WTA world ranking to match her age after a brilliant run to the San Diego 500 title on Sunday, coming back from a set down to oust Marta Kostyuk in the final. The Brit won her maiden title in Nottingham last summer but this more prestigious trophy, away from home, is all the more impressive off the back of some very encouraging results over the likes of Beatriz Haddad-Maia, Donna Vekic and in-form Emma Navarro. World number 106 Camila Giorgi looks a good draw on recent form but the Italian is always capable of bursting into form at an event of this stature – just as she did to win the Canada Masters title in 2021. Winning your next match after claiming the biggest title of your career is an incredibly tough transition but a short hop across California to Indian Wells could see Boulter enjoy a strong run in similar conditions.
