THE PREDICTION

21-year-old Brandon Nakashima is riding a three-match losing streak into the US Open but the American should be able to bounce back on home soil with fans behind him. The world number 69 should be ranked well inside the top 50 after reaching the round of 16 at a Grand Slam for he first time, where he came closer than most to ousting eventual runner-up Nick Kyrgios, but ranking points were denied at SW19. 23-year-old Pavel Kotov set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 113th this week after qualifying well to make his US Open debut. The Russian took a set from Botic Van de Zandschulp at Roland-Garros on his major debut and he is coming off a title-winning campaign on the Challenger circuit, albeit on clay in San Marino. Nakashima should be taking this in straight sets but the youngster can sometime let his opponents back in to a match before closing strongly, so back him as the outright winner here.
