World number 28 Belinda Bencic is finding some serious form at the Miami Open, with her victory over Aliaksandra Sasnovich on Monday her third in a row without dropping a set. The 25-year-old won Gold Medals in Singles and Women’s Doubles at the Tokyo Olympic Games last summer but in terms of ranking points the former world number four’s last WTA title came at the 2019 Dunai Tennis Championships.

28-year-old Daria Saville has increased her WTA world ranking by 122 places already this week after reaching the quarter-finals of the Miami Open. The Aussie, formerly known by her maiden name Daria Gavrilova, is a former world number 20 but after several years largely away from the tour she started this year’s Australian Open outside the top 400. Saville stunned Ons Jabeur at Indian Wells at Indian Wells last time out for a first top 10 win since she beat Petra Kvitova at the Beijing Open in 2018.

Daria Saviile leads Belinda Bencic 2-1 in their head-to-head record but with their last meeting coming way back in 2015 this is a fresh start for all intents and purposes. Saville’s rise up the WTA world rankings is fascinating and her victory over Ons Jabeur at Indian Wells three weeks ago a serious benchmark for what could transpire here but Bencic has been the more ruthless of the two this campaign. The Swiss is tough to stop once she finds this kind of rhythm and in a match that is likely to see three sets taking her to win at least one of them is the suitably cautious move here.
