THE PREDICTION
This is a huge moment for world number 18 Qinwen Zheng and number 19 Beatriz Haddad-Maia to meet for the first time on tour. 21-year-old Zheng will receive a partisan atmosphere as the Chinese number one in Zhuhai but Haddad-Maia is an excellent combatant well capable of bringing the very best players on tour to the edge of a three-set marathon. The Brazilian has worked against type this week with three very impressive straight-set victories over Madison Kays, Caroline Garcia and Daria Kasatkina whilst Zheng has needed three sets to oust all three of her opponents in Donna Vekic, Jelena Ostapenko and wildcard Lin Zhu. The Chinese will be backed to the hilt here on Sunday but Haddad-Maia has proven herself a dogged battler time and time again this season. The suitably cautious move is backing the Brazilian to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance but otherwise consider taking the match to see three sets.
