Former world number two Paula Badosa appears to be working her way back into form after a fairly drab second-half of last season raised questions. The 25-year-old has beaten two top players in Anett Kontaveit and Kaia Kanepi in straight sets so far at Adelaide 2 and this will be a fascinating first meeting with world number 15 Beatriz Haddad-Maia. The Brazilian enjoyed a transformative season last year and she could set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 14th if she matches Petra Kvitova’s run this week, with two straight-set wins of her own over Sorana Cirstea and Amanda Anisimova. This could be the match of the round on Thursday if both players bring their best but a fit and firing Badosa should just about edge things here. Back the Spaniard to earn at least a set and leave the victor up to chance.
