THE PREDICTION
World number 30 Sorana Cirstea conceded just five games to Kayla Day on Monday to look dialled in for the US Open. The 33-year-old has enjoyed an excellent renaissance period this side of 30 to twice come very close to breaking her career-high WTA world ranking of 21st set back in 2013 and there is still time to do so if she can find the form that saw her reach the semi-finals of the Miami Open back in March. World number 89 Anna Kalinskaya was setting her own records earlier this season before suffering an injury at the Italian Open in May, just a week after stunning Elena Rybakina in Madrid. The 24-year-old has reached the second round in each of last four appearances at the US Open but, as of yet no further, to suggest that this is Cirstea’s to lose but Cirstea had to come back from a set down to beat Kalinskaya at Indian Wells in their only previous meeting last season. Back the Romanian to earn at least a set inside an accumulator or outright on its own, with Kalinskaya impressing in her first match since May in beating Katerina Siniakova on Monday.
