World number 51 Yulia Putintseva is yet to drop a set this week at the Hobart International after two commanding wins over Claire Liu and Nuria Parrizas-Diaz. The 28-year-old looks like one of the title favourites as the draw continues to open up but world number 72 Anna Blinkova should not be underestimated after she ousted the top seed Marie Bouzkova for a proper upset on Wednesday. The Russian began finding more consistent results late last season before claiming a surprising maiden WTA title at the Winners Open in Cluj and she looks well capable of breaking the top 50 on tour for the first time this season, sooner rather than later. Putintseva is one of the more unpredictable players on tour but she should be taking a 2-0 lead in their head-to-head if she finds her best here. The shrewd move may well be backing Blinkova to earn at least a set, though, given her recent boost in confidence.
