World number seven Andrey Rublev is riding a nine-match winning streak after title-winning campaigns at the Open 13 and Dubai Tennis Championship last month. The 24-year-old owns five ATP 500 titles out of his total of 10 career titles but he is getting closer to a first Masters trophy after finishing runner-up to Alexander Zverev at the Cincinnati Open last August.
DOMINIK KOEPFER
World number 51 Dominik Koepfer put in a strong performance to come back from a set down to Benoit Paire on Friday. The collegiate product reached the quarter-finals of the Italian Open in 2020 on his Masters debut and he shocked Andy Murray and Felix Auger-Aliassime at the Paris Masters last November on a run to the round of 16 there.
THE PREDICTION
This will be a tough match for Andrey Rublev to get across the line in straight sets after a few weeks off the tour following back-to-back titles. The Russian is one of the best players on tour for continuing winning streaks after finding his rhythm and he looks a dark horse for the title in California if results go his way elsewhere. Rublev beat Koepfer in straight sets in the semi-finals of the Davis Cup late last year and backing him to win outright looks a suitably cautious move.
