The Russian will have to recover well in this quick turnaround against defending champion Felix Auger-Aliassime, who is gently playing himself back into some long-awaited confidence in Basel, but a first round victory over home favourite Stan Wawrinka says the Russian is enjoying his best form in these conditions yet. 23-year-old Auger-Aliassime has endured his first disappointing season on tour after consistently out-performing his age group but back-to-back wins in back-to-back tournaments is evidence of an upturn in form. Shevchenko must not be underestimated here but taking the Canadian to earn at least a set seems the suitably cautious call, particularly as Shevchenko put so much into his first top 10 win over Fritz.
