THE PREDICTION

26-year-old Alejandro Tabilo set a career-high ATP world ranking of 49th after a shock run to his maiden title at the Auckland Classic in January but he can break that with victory here. The Chilean will receive a strong support in Santiago but there is no denying his opponent Luciano Darderi is capable of winning some of the neutrals over as he continues to enjoy a purple patch on tour, with victory over Juan Manuel Cerundolo on Thursday seeing him move up to a career-high of 73rd in the live rankings. 22-year-old Darderi enjoyed his own shock run to a maiden title at the Cordoba Open last month, upsetting Sebastian Baez en-route, and his two fierce results so far this week suggest he is battle-hardened ahead of this first tour-level meeting with Tabilo. The pair won a meeting each on the ITF tour last season but Tabilo claimed a set in each to offer a sensible way to avoid a result, particularly on home clay.
