THE PREDICTION

World number seven Matteo Berrettini is part of a very promising Team Italy here at the ATP Cup looking to go one further than their runners-up medal from last season. The 25-year-old enjoyed his best season to date in 2021 with a first Grand Slam final reached at Wimbledon following a first ATP 500 trophy at Queen’s Club. The Italian beat 22-year-old Alex de Minaur in straight sets at Queen’s last summer, when the Aussie set a career-high ATP world ranking of 15th after a second title of the year won at the Eastbourne International. De Minaur blew hot and cold last season but his talents are undeniable with as many titles (5) as Berrettini at three years younger. However, at this stage of their careers Berrettini should be too powerful for De Minaur despite a home crowd able to take him all the way to a decider. Berrettini should be winning this outright.
