Sara Bejlek has been handed a wildcard for this tournament in her home country. The 19-year-old Czech is currently ranked 118 in the world. She won a title on clay in Makarska last month and also impressed at Roland Garros, winning all three of her qualifying matches and then going one better by defeating Marta Kostyuk in straight sets to register her first ever victory at a major. 

She will face Moyuka Uchijima for a place in the last 16. The Japanese player’s form has deserted her ever since making it all the way to the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open. She has won just a solitary match since and is currently on a six match losing streak.
