Montpellier are in dire form after coming agonisingly close to a first Top 14 win in three at Brive, where they lost by just one point to sit second-from-bottom in the table. As the fixtures start to level out they can no longer rely on a glut of games in-hand to shoot them back up the standings and now face the prospect of hosting a plucky Castres outfit on a two-match winning streak. The visitors beat Lyon in the match before last and backed that up with a comprehensive victory over the Top 14’s relegation-elects Agen on Saturday. It could be a high-scoring game that goes over 40 points here with Castres’ offence far outstripping their defensive frailties right now and the visitors could just edge this one to put Montpellier in real trouble.
