THE PREDICTION
Clermont Auvergne put 59 points past Castres at home last weekend and that was good going against their in-form visitors after a difficult spell of their own in league and cup. They are behind Racing 92 now as part of a Top 14 chasing pack of five teams including Bordeaux here whom they recently drew 16-16 in the reverse fixture. Bordeaux have already shown they can go toe-to-toe with Clermont and they stunned Racing 92 32-33 on the road on Saturday in a real statement of intent. It seems the hangover from the cancellation of last season, of which they were the favourites to win, could be behind them now and they will be ones to watch moving forwards. Clermont should be able to win this with the warning from Bordeaux’s last match but for want of a tough result it seems better to pick the hosts to come out on top of a high-scoring match that goes over 40 points than for a handicap here.
