THE TEAM NEWS

MANLY SEA EAGLES

  • Manly Sea Eagles returned to winning ways after losing their prior two matches thanks to recording a relatively straightforward success against Wests Tigers last week and will look to build on that as they take on Brisbane Broncos.
  • The Sea Eagles were boosted by the return of star man Tom Trbojevic at fullback and his influence was evident while Haumole Olakau’atu is back from illness and there could also be a late call-up for Josh Schuster who will hope to come back into the side after being named among the reserves.

Starting 13: T. Trbojevic, Tuipulotu, B. Trbojevic, Koula, Garrick, Foran, Cherry-Evans, Aloiai, Croker, Keppie, Olakau’atu, Bullemor, J. Trbojevic – Interchanges: Walker, Davey, Taupau, Sipley – Reserves: De Luis, Harper, Weekes, Roumanos, Schuster, Humphreys, Sykes

Unavailable: Brad Parker, Jason Saab, Karl Lawton, Morgan Boyle, Taniela Paseka

BRISBANE BRONCOS

  • Brisbane Broncos made it three straight wins thanks to another impressive showing as they got the better of South Sydney Rabbitohs last week with Kevin Walters’ side romping to victory in what was an eye-catching success.
  • They now get the chance to make it four successive victories with this Magic Round clash on home soil, despite being listed as the away team, and Walters has the luxury of being able to call upon key forwards Payne Haas and Kurt Capewell.

Starting 13: Martin, Oates, Staggs, Farnworth, Cobbo, Gamble, Reynolds, Jensen, Walters, Haas, Capewell, Riki, Carrigan – Interchanges: Paix, Hetherington, Flegler, Palasia – Reserves: Lee, Robati, Kennedy, Mam, Pereira, James, Turpin

Unavailable: Xavier Willison, Brendan Piakura, Albert Kelly, Tesi Niu

THE PREDICTION

Manly Sea Eagles and Brisbane Broncos take part in an intriguing clash to finish day one of Magic Round. The Sea Eagles have lacked consistency so far this season but got back to winning ways last week while the Broncos are hitting form having won their last three. They have claimed the scalps of two strong teams in their last two outings and will view this as another opportunity to demonstrate where they are at as a team. There is little to split the two based on their efforts so far this season and while this could go either way, the added benefit of home advantage at Suncorp should aid the Broncos who are fancied with the aid of a +6.5 start on the handicap.
