Roman Andres Burruchaga recovered from going a set down to defeat Patrick Zahraj and make his first quarter-final on the ATP Tour this season. The Argentine lost the first set and was broken when serving for the second but broke the Zahraj serve straight away to draw level. Burruchaga dominated the third set to win 4-6 6-4 6-1 and he will now face Ignacio Buse.
Buse produced an upset in the previous round as he defeated Kamil Majchrzak to reach the last eight. He made a poor start to the match but remained competitive in the second set and got his rewards as he drew level. He raced clear in the third to win 1-6 7-5 6-1. The Peruvian qualifier has now beaten the Pole and Laslo Djere in the main draw this week.
Burruchaga leads the head-to-head 1-0, after beating Buse 7-5 6-3 last year in the Luedenscheid Challenger last year on clay. Nevertheless, Buse has four wins in a row including qualifying and should not be disregarded. There’s little to separate the two and it could go into a deciding set.
