Rafael Jodar has started the North American leg of the ATP Tour in scintillating form having reached a final in Washington, a semi-final last time out in Montreal, and now he is one step from the quarter-finals in Cincinnati.
Jodar is the 12 seed this week and after producing a stunning comeback to beat Denis Shapovalov in his first match, he then dominated Alejandro Tabilo 6-2 6-1 in the third round.
The 19-year-old is loving life in his breakout year on the ATP Tour and he is already up to number 11 in the world rankings.
He takes on Italy’s Flavio Cobolli for the first time and it will be interesting to see how their styles match up.
Cobolli has had to come through two tough three-setters against Miomir Kecmanovic and then Alexander Blockx.
He is not quite at his best right now but as always, he is competing hard and battling through his matches.
This is arguably Cobolli’s weakest surface and he has already equalled his best performance in Cincinnati this week. With Jodar firing on all cylinders and all the momentum with him, we simply have to lean towards the Spanish prodigy to continue this sensational form.
