Petr Yan: Ex-champ looking to get back in title shot contention

Former bantamweight champion Petr Yan (17-5) is looking to get back in contention for a title shot with a win here. After three successive losses, Yan beat Song Yadong by unanimous decision at UFC 299 and he will look to build on that in what is potentially a title shot eliminator. He has been fighting at an incredibly high level for quite some time now and while he has lost four of his last six, those have come against Aljamain Sterling, Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili.

Deiveson Figueiredo: Brazilian looking to get in the title mix in new division

Deiveson Figueiredo (24-3-1) is looking to make inroads in the bantamweight division after he moved from up after losing his flyweight crown at the hands of Brandon Moreno. He has since won all three bouts in this weight class against Rob Font, Cody Garbrandt and then Marlon Vera last time out.  All three wins came via the scorecards and his power does not look to have transitioned up the weight class. Despite his losses against Moreno, he does however look capable at the top end of the bantamweight division.

Petr Yan vs Deiveson Figueiredo Prediction

We have a cracker of a main event at UFC 248 in Macau as Petr Yan faces off against Deiveson Figueiredo in the UFC’s bantamweight division. Both fighters have been at the top of their game for quite some time now and there really is plenty on the line for both as defeat will set them back in their quest to get a title shot.

Figueiredo is an impressive operator and has done well since moving to the new weight class. This is his toughest test however and Yan will really test his credentials.

Yan has been on the losing end of tough decisions including two split decisions against O’Malley and Sterling. That should take nothing away from the level of which he is fighting however and he knows he is an impressive win here away from another title shot.

We like his chances here as the more natural fighter in this weight class. It will not be easy stopping the incredibly tough and durable Figueiredo but he should have enough all-round quality to grind out a decision win.

Prediction: Petr Yan to win by decision
