Northamptonshire Steelbacks vs Somerset prediction

Northamptonshire Steelbacks were comfortable winners in their quarter-final against Gloucestershire, but victory came at a cost with Australian opener Chris Lynn forced to retire hurt on 18 after being struck on the foot by a yorker. Lynn’s availability for Finals Day is now in doubt and after having plundered 475 runs across the tournament so far, losing him would be a savage blow. Even if Lynn is passed fit, the big-hitting batter not being at 100% capacity is a huge concern.

Reigning champions Somerset are just the team capable of taking advantage. They boast arguably the most momentum of all four teams heading into Finals Day, having won their last five games, all of which were essentially knockout games when considering their dire position at one point in the group stage. They keep finding ways to win and that was typified by their quarter-final triumph away to Yorkshire Vikings, which saw Craig Overton come in at number nine and strike 79 not out from 30 balls, guiding Lewis Gregory’s side to a remarkable two-wicket win with a ball to spare.

Somerset have already beaten the Steelbacks once as part of this recent winning streak and are further boosted with the news that Tom Banton will be available for Finals Day. This is their sixth consecutive Finals Day and of their last five, only once were they eliminated in the semi-finals (2022). As strong a team as Northants are, it’s hard to see that changing when considering how they are always finding ways to win right now.
