MANUEL TORRES VS CHRIS DUNCAN LOWDOWN

Manuel Torres (14-2) is flying high on a five-fight streak finishing all his victims in the first round. After two ruthless submissions on the regional scene, he knocked out Kotlon Englund (2021) on the Contender Series to earn the call-up. He knocked out Frank Camacho (2022) on debut and is now coming off his seventh knockout which came over Nikolas Motta (2023) at UFC on ESPN 47.

He welcomes Chris Duncan (11-1) to Mexico who is riding his own four-fight streak. He got knocked out on the Contender Series by Viacheslav Borshchev (2021) but redeemed himself a year later on the series by knocking out Charlie Campbell. He followed that up with a split decision over Omar Morales (2023) on debut and a more convincing decision over Yanal Ashmoz at UFC Fight Night 224 last year.

MANUEL TORRES VS CHRIS DUNCAN PREDICTION

Torres’ last nine fights have not gone out the first round. Not the best preparation for fighting at altitude, but then again, he will not be planning on this going the distance.

He is very well-rounded and aggressive on the feet and on the mat. He is a diverse striker using his range well whether that is to land from range or wrap up a submission. However, he may need another strategy up the sleeve here as Duncan is very durable.

The Scot is also well-rounded as a powerful striker and solid grappler. He is more of a wrestler and will be wise to incorporate his wrestling here to test the Mexican’s gas tank.

Torres is more dangerous, but Duncan’s style is better suited up at elevation and is more likely to keep up the pace if this goes past the first round and as the underdog, he holds all of the value.

That is a big if especially as Duncan has suspect defence. He just needs to get clipped once to swing the fight in Torres’ favour. This is close to call, but we should learn everything we need to know in the first round.

Ultimately, we feel Duncan’s defence will let him down, but we can easily see him absorb the early damage and then have a strong second and third round mixing in his wrestling.

Prediction: Torres via KO/TKO

Value Bet: Duncan to win
