Despite winning the Nottingham Open, it was a short run at Wimbledon for McCartney Kessler as she lost in the first-round. She was the victim of a tough draw, going down to 2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova. Nevertheless, Kessler will hope to get back to winning ways in Washington and recapture some of the wonderful form that handed her a second title of the season.

Caroline Dolehide defeated Cristina Bucsa and Aliaksandra Sasnovich in both of her qualifying rounds. Dolehide has failed to make a key breakthrough this season in the majority of the events she’s competed in, apart from the Texas Open where she made the quarter-finals.

Both players are strong from the baseline and are likely to cancel each other out at times. However, Kessler has enjoyed the better season and has the marginally better defence game, which could prove the difference in a best of three set match.
