Maria Sakkari’s Wimbledon run ended in the second-round, as she lost to 2022 champion Elena Rybakina in straight sets. The Greek has failed to win consecutive matches on the main draw since her run to the fourth-round of the Madrid Open in April, which stands as one of her highlights of a testing season so far. Sakkari was ranked in the top 10 as recently as last year but is now currently 88 in the world.
She goes up against Great Britain’s Katie Boulter in the first-round. Boutler’s campaign at the All England Club ended in tame fashion as she lost to lucky loser Solana Sierra in the second-round. This was despite Boulter being a set up and impressively beating Paula Badosa in round one.
