LYON PREVIEW: CHAOTIC LYON

After a season in which Olympique Lyonnais leapt from rock-bottom to a top six finish with their third permanent manager of the campaign, Pierre Sage, a chaotic Lyon side have experienced yet another inconsistent and chaotic 2024/25 season.

OL were held to a 2-2 draw by Hoffenheim in the UEFA Europa League in midweek thanks to a 95th minute Hoffenheim equaliser. They have drawn their last two matches in Ligue 1, too, to extend their domestic unbeaten run of form to five matches.

SAINT-ETIENNE PREVIEW: IMPROVED ASSE

Following promotion back to the top-flight of French football last season playing a dour and defensive style of football under the management of Olivier Dall’Oglio, Saint-Etienne have won three, drawn one and lost nine of their opening ten games.

ASSE have improved as the season has gone on and the visitors come into this one on the back of a 2-0 defeat of Strasbourg at the Stade Geoffrey-Guichard last weekend thanks to second-half goals from Moustapha Nade and Ibrahim Sissoko.

LYON TEAM NEWS: NO NUAMAH

Lyon have an extremely deep squad, especially in attacking areas, but they do have a couple of injuries with the absences of Mahamadou Diawara and Ernest Nuamah.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Perri; Maitland-Niles, Caleta-Car, Niakhate, Tagliafico; Veretout, Matic, Tolisso; Cherki, Lacazette, Fofana

UNAVAILABLE: Diawara (Injured), Nuamah (Injured)

LYON VS SAINT-ETIENNE PREDICTION

In their opening ten matches of this campaign, Lyon have had 32 goals come in their games with 17 scored and 15 conceded. The hosts have been thrilling to watch and are an unpredictable side, too. They face a Saint-Etienne side that have also fallen into the unpredictable category with recent performances and results. ASSE will fancy their chances of scoring in the derby but Lyon remain favourites, especially with home advantage.
