Juan Manuel Cerundolo caused a huge upset in the quarter-finals as he came back from the brink to defeat two-time champion Casper Ruud and reach the last four. The Argentine’s hopes of continuing in the tournament looked all but gone, as he went a double break down in the deciding set. But Cerundolo came roaring back to reel off six straight games in a row and win 6-2 1-6 6-3. He’s into the second ATP Tour semi-final of his career.
Ignacio Buse will be his opponent. The qualifier picked up yet another win this week after beating Roman Andres Burruchaga 6-3 3-6 6-1. He struggled to convert his break point opportunities, but his return game was very solid and he now has five victories in a row.
Cerundolo leads the head-to-head 1-0, coming from a set down to defeat Buse in the first-round of a Challenger event in Lima. The Argentine now has seven wins from his last eight matches after his runners-up finish in Braunschweig last week and will be full of confidence after arguably the best win of his career. We think he’s good value to reach his second final in succession.
