Francisco Cerundolo vs Mariano Navone prediction
Francisco Cernudolo is competing in his first event since losing in the first-round of Wimbledon. The Argentine put together a strong run of form during the earlier part of the season but his form has tailed off in recent times, as he also suffered defeats in the first-round of Roland Garros and Halle. His last victory came in round one of the Hamburg Open in late May. Nevertheless, Cerundolo is a serious competitor on clay and has made one final in Buenos Aires and three other semi-finals on the surface this season.
He has a tough assignment in his first match as he goes up against Mariano Navone. The Argentine broke twice late on in both sets to get past Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera and record his third straight win against him. Navone was broken on three separate occasions and was 3-0 down in the second set, but still managed to wrap up a straight sets win.
They have played once before, with Navone defeating Cerundolo in the quarter-finals of the Bucharest Open on clay last year. Cerundolo may be the top seed, but he will have his work cut out if he wants to get past Navone, who made the last eight here in 2024, and reach the quarters.
Francisco Cerundolo vs Mariano Navone tip: Both players to win a set
