THE PREDICTION

Maccabi Haifa have reached this stage of the UEFA Champions League qualifiers after having started back in the second round and have made it in some style, knocking out opponents such as Greek champions Olympiacos and Cypriot champions Apollon Limassol. Most impressive about Maccabi Haifa has been their attacking prowess particularly at home, where they hit four past both Olympiacos and Apollon, so former European champions Red Star Belgrade will have to be at their very best defensively. In terms of offensive play, Red Star are also formidable in that regard, smashing seven goals past Pyunik over two legs in the third qualifying round and already boast a goal difference of +20 after just five domestic league fixtures. Despite the quality of opposition, Maccabi Haifa are unlikely to sacrifice their attacking intent here, particularly at home. This may benefit them in-front of goal, but could also open the door for the visitors if they are afforded extra space inside the opposition half. When taking this into account, over 2.5 goals scored across the first-leg of this play-off looks very much on the cards and should be backed as appropriate.
