Renata Zarazua vs Polina Iatcenko prediction

Renata Zarazua was unable to make a deep run at one of her home events, as she lost her opening match at the Monterrey Open. The Mexican took the first set against Clara Tauson, but went on to lose 3-6 6-3 6-0. She did reach the semi-finals of the Memphis Open right at the start of the month, beating second seed McCartney Kessler along the way. She has also won an ITF title this season, defeating Martina Capurro Taborda in the final of the Charlotteville Open. At Flushing Meadows last year, Zarazua beat Madison Keys in the first-round, winning her first ever match against a top 10 opponent.

She will face Polina Iatcenko in round one this year. Iatcenko will be making her main draw debut at a Grand Slam after qualifying for the tournament. The Russian is ranked outside the world’s top 150, but she has momentum on her side after those three wins in a row.

Zarazua remains the favourite to come through this opening match in New York.
