THE PREDICTION
Unai Emery’s spell at Villarreal has been a generally successful season but it is now two years in a row whereby too many draws have cost them a chance at mounting a serious push for the top four. Winning the UEFA Europa League last season got them into the UEFA Champions League this year. They have, though, returned from the winter break playing some good football after hammering Levante 5-0, drawing 2-2 with Atletico Madrid but then they suffered a surprise and frustrating 1-0 defeat against Elche last weekend in a Valencian derby. They now come up against a Real Mallorca side that would’ve viewed avoiding relegation as a successful season so far but the visitors have drifted quite badly since a very good start to the campaign. The Balearic Islanders have moved into the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey but they have won just one of their last 12 in the league. Villarreal, especially with home advantage, will come into this as the relatively comfortable favourites.
