THE LOWDOWN
VALENCIA
Before the end of last season, Ruben Baraja arrived on an interim basis to eventually steer the Spanish giants away from relegation and they narrowly avoided the drop on the final day of the campaign. This season, the Valencians are now pushing towards the top seven and the European qualifying spots.
They went into the March international break, though, on the back of some underwhelming form. Their most recent outing saw them defeated by regional rivals Villarreal by a goal to nil a couple of weeks ago and that means they have now managed just one victory in their last five matches in La Liga.
MALLORCA
Under the management of Mexican coach Javier Aguirre, Real Mallorca have overperformed in the last couple of seasons and avoiding the drop would have been another successful campaign for the Balearic Islanders this time around after the summer sale of Lee Kang-in to Paris Saint-Germain. Not only are they going to beat the drop but they may also qualify for Europe.
European qualification via La Liga is now almost impossible, or at least ridiculously unlikely, but they have reached the final of the Copa del Rey where they will face Athletic Club at La Cartuja in Seville next week. That cup run, combined with an improvement in the league, means that they have suffered just two defeats in their last eight matches across all competitions.
THE TEAM NEWS
VALENCIA

QUESTIONABLE:
MALLORCA
Real Mallorca have one doubt for this weekend’s trip to Mestalla as defender Martin Valjent is potentially unavailable for this one.
PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Rajkovic; Gonzalez, Nastasic, Raillo, Copete, Lato; Sanchez, Mascarell, Rodriguez; Larin, Muriqi
UNAVAILABLE:
QUESTIONABLE: Valjent (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
The expectation ahead of this season would have been that this early spring encounter would have been pivotal for this season’s relegation battle but both sides are set for very productive campaigns. Valencia are very much in the hunt for a top seven finish, whilst Real Mallorca will be forgiven for being almost entirely consumed by the Copa del Rey final next week. Given that distraction, as well as their home advantage, backing Valencia looks the way to go for this one.
