THE LOWDOWN

VERONA

Verona start the weekend in the bottom three after their 3-1 loss to Atalanta. Darko Vazovic put Verona in front but goals from Davide Zappacosta, Mario Pasalic and Rasmus Hojlund swung the game in Atalanta’s favour and condemned Verona to an untimely loss.

That was a third loss in four matches for Verona who saw Spezia leapfrog them last weekend and the pressure is firmly on as they aim to avoid the drop with them winning just one of their last five matches.

If they are to pull themselves away from trouble, they will need to rely on their home form. They have lost their last two, both without scoring, but they have only lost three of their last 10 Serie A matches on home soil.

EMPOLI

Empoli secured an eye-catching result as they hammered Juventus in their most recent encounter. It was an excellent display from Empoli with Francesco Caputo opening the scoring from the spot before Sebastino Luperto made it 2-0 before the break. Caputo added a second before Federico Chiesa bagged a late equaliser but there was still time for Roberto Piccoli to add a fourth.

That success was a fourth game without a loss for Empoli while they have been able to win three of those matches in what has been an impressive run which has seen them pull well away from relegation trouble.

Despite those recent successes, all three of their wins were on home soil. On the road, Empoli have failed to win any of their last eight and that will be something they aim to rectify in this final away game of the season.

Verona are desperate for a win as they aim to pull themselves out of the bottom three. They have managed to win just one of their last five and they now run into an in-form side in the shape of Empoli. The visitors are unbeaten in four and while their away form leaves a lot to be desired, they should be able to extend their unbeaten run in this one.
