THE LOWDOWN

NAPOLI

After winning the Scudetto for the first time ever last season and the third time outside of the Diego Maradona-era, it has been a really embarrassing defence of the title for the Neapolitans. Slovakia boss Francesco Calzona, who will be at UEFA EURO 2024, is their third manager of the campaign after the sackings of Walter Mazzarri and Rudi Garcia.

The hosts are currently sitting outside of the top seven but eighth place, where they begin the weekend, might well be enough to qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League. They come into this one on the back of a 1-0 loss away to Empoli and that means they have now suffered just one defeat in their last six matches across all competitions.

ROMA

Ever since the January appointment of club legend Daniele De Rossi, who replaced the underperforming Jose Mourinho with Roma sitting in mid-table, the Giallorossi have enjoyed an extremely impressive second-half to the season as they compete for a top five finish and potential UEFA Champions League qualification.

As well as UEFA Champions League qualification, Roma are also in the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League next month. The Romans recovered from a 3-1 loss to Bologna last weekend by pulling off a second-half turnaround against Udinese in midweek with Bryan Cristante scoring a 95th minute winner.

THE TEAM NEWS

NAPOLI

Defender Mathias Olivera is missing this weekend through suspension as they welcome capital city giants Roma down to Naples on Sunday evening.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Meret; Di Lorenzo, Ostigard, Juan, Natan; Anguissa, Lobotka, Zielinski; Politano, Osimhen, Kvaratskhelia

UNAVAILABLE: Olivera (Injured)

ROMA

All three of Diego Llorente, Zeki Celik and Leandro Paredes are missing through suspension for this weekend, whilst Romelu Lukaku is unavailable through injury.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-1-1): Svilar; Smalling, Huijsen, Ndicka; Zalewski, Cristante, Pellegrini, Aouar, Tasende; Baldanzi; Abraham

UNAVAILABLE: Llorente (Suspended), Paredes (Suspended), Celik (Suspended), Lukaku (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

These two have had very different seasons and very different experiences to a managerial change. If it wasn’t so futile and pointless due to the lack of games left in this season, the pressure would be immense on Calzona down in Naples. De Rossi, on the other hand, set to sign a contract extension beyond this summer, has been magnificent and transformed his Roma side. Even with it being the expected outcome, backing against last season’s champions at home should still be a good value bet.

TIP: ROMA TO WIN
