THE LOWDOWN
JUVENTUS
Juventus still harbour hopes of making next season’s UEFA Champions League but their 10-point deduction makes it extremely unlikely. They were on the end of a 4-1 loss to Empoli last week and they now have it all to do to try and force their way back into the top four.
Juve were second best throughout and found themselves 2-0 down just before the midway point of the first half with Francesco Caputo converting from the spot before Sebastiano Luperto doubled Empoli’s lead. Caputo bagged again after the break before Federico Chiesa pulled one back late on but Roberto Piccoli added a fourth in injury time to rub salt into the wounds.
That was Juve’s first loss in five Serie A matches and ended a three-game winning streak but a return to home soil could be the tonic they need having won five of their last six league games in front of their own fans.
AC MILAN
AC Milan put their UEFA Champions League disappointment firmly behind them as they hammered Sampdoria last week. They ran out 5-1 winners over the side propping up the table with Oliver Giroud bagging a hat-trick while Rafael Leao and Brahim Diaz also chipped in with goals.
That win ended a run of three successive defeats in all competitions for Milan and it also ended their scoring drought having failed to find the back of the net in any of those three outings.
This is now an important game as they aim to seal their spot in next year’s UCL but their away form is a worry having failed to win any of their last five on the road in all competitions while it is just one win in their last nine on their travels across the board.
THE PREDICTION
This is a huge contest between Juventus and AC Milan with potential European ramifications for the loser. Juve will be reeling on the back of their 10-point deduction as well as their heavy 4-1 defeat to Empoli last week. On the other hand, AC Milan were big winners on their most recent outing. However, this is a much tougher assignment and owing to the respective home and away records of the two teams, preference is for Juventus in the draw no bet market.
