THE LOWDOWN

INTER MILAN

A 20th Scudetto would earn Internazionale a second star upon the badge and it is only a matter of time until the Nerazzurri are mathematically confirmed as 2023/24 Serie A champions. Inter begin the 32nd match day of the campaign sitting 14 points clear of their Derby della Madonnina rivals AC Milan with 21 points to play for.

They come into this one on the back of a hard-fought victory up in Friuli, defeating Udinese by two goals to one. Lazar Samardzic gave Udinese a half-time lead in that game before Hakan Calhanoglu scored a penalty and then Davide Frattesi notched a 95th minute winner. They are on course to hit the 100-point mark, too.

CAGLIARI

Having gained promotion back to the top-flight last season, Cagliari started really slowly but they have performed quite well as they move towards the middle-of-the-table under the management of former Leicester City and Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri. They come into this weekend on the back of some impressive form.

The Sardinians come into this one on the back of a shocking 2-1 defeat of high-flying Atalanta in their most recent outing, last weekend, with Tommaso Augello and Nicolas Viola turning the game on its head and giving them victory. That means Cagliari have now suffered just one loss in their last seven matches in Serie A.

THE PREDICTION

Inter are inching towards confirming themselves as Italian champions but performances have perhaps dipped since they were beaten on penalties by Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League last month. Cagliari have been much-improved of late and do appear like they may avoid the drop this season. Despite their improvement and Inter’s slight regression, a convincing and comfortable home win is to be expected this weekend.

TIP: INTER TO WIN
