WEHEN WIESBADEN

  • Promoted side Wehen Wiesbaden, who are bidding to reach the second round of the cup for the third year running, have lost their opening two games in Bundesliga II.
  • Marc Wachs, Patrick Schonfeld and Jules Schwadorf remain sidelined and left-back Michel Niemeyer will be assessed after being forced off early during last Sunday’s 3-2 defeat at Erzgebirge Aue.
  • Summer signing Phillip Tietz came into the side against Aue and should retain his place up front after scoring, while goalkeeper Jan-Christoph Bartels is set to be on the bench against his parent club.

KOLN

  • Four-time DFB Cup winners Koln secured an immediate return to the top flight last season but they begin the new campaign with a new coach in Achim Beierlorzer, who has little senior management experience.
  • Centre-back Sebastiaan Bornauw became the club’s sixth summer signing this week but he is unlikely to go straight into the starting line-up, although Birger Verstraete, Kingsley Ehizibue and Kingsley Schindler could all make their full debuts.
  • Christian Clemens, Marcel Risse and Noah Katterbach are unavailable due to injury, and recent signing Ellyes Skhiri is still on holiday following the Africa Cup of Nations.

THE PREDICTION

Wehen Wiesbaden come into this match from back-to-back defeats in the league but they did at least hit the target in both outings. Koln scored for fun in the second tier last season but have registered just one clean sheet in their last seven DFB Cup games, so both teams to score is worth considering here.
