THE LOWDOWN

METZ

Following promotion last season, Metz have enjoyed a relatively impressive start to the 2023/24 Ligue 1 campaign. Under the management of Hungarian, Laszlo Boloni, Metz begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the middle-of-the-table with four victories, four draws and six defeats in their 14 matches so far this season.

The home team come into this on the back of a 2-0 loss to Lille in their most recent outing, last weekend, ending an impressive run of form. Prior to that defeat, Metz were unbeaten in four matches after the October international break. Metz have managed to score just 15 goals in their 14 games so far this season.

BREST

Coached by former Sunderland midfielder Eric Roy, Stade Brest come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with Strasbourg in their most recent outing in midweek. The visitors begin this match day sitting tucked inside the top-half with a genuine hope and chance of finishing in the top six and earning European qualification.

Their fast start to the season was followed by a fairly major dip in the autumn months but Brest have returned to some sort of form ahead of this one, albeit their performances remain fairly unconvincing and underwhelming. They have collected seven points from their last three matches since the November international break.

THE PREDICTION

Metz have enjoyed a relatively impressive and admirable Ligue 1 campaign so far as they do battle against the drop. As a newly-promoted side, they were expected to struggle but have so far been more than competitive. They now take on a Brest team where it would be fair to suggest their current league position flatters them somewhat and, as a consequence, a double chance bet in favour of Metz, especially with their home advantage, would represent some good value for this one.

BETTING TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – METZ TO WIN OR DRAW
