THE LOWDOWN
BREST
Stade Brest have been punching above their weight throughout the campaign in Ligue 1 as they begin the 26 match day of the campaign sitting tucked inside the top three and the UEFA Champions League qualifying spots. The home team do come into this one on the back of a first league defeat of the calendar year.
They were beaten 1-0 by Lens at Stade Bollaert-Delelis last weekend up in the north with a 32nd minute winning goal from Lens’ right wing-back, Ruben Aguilar. Prior to that defeat, Brest were unbeaten in their previous 13 matches in Ligue 1. They haven’t conceded more than a goal in a league game in their last six games.
LILLE
Under the management of former Shakhtar Donetsk and Roma boss Paulo Fonseca, Lille begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just outside of the aforementioned top three and the UEFA Champions League places with the northerners in exceptional nick across all competitions as they push for a return to Europe’s elite club competition.
The visitors shared a 1-1 draw at Stade du Nord against Austrian Bundesliga outfit Sturm Graz in midweek as they completed a 3-1 aggregate victory in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Europa Conference League. Lille have suffered just three matches in their last 13 matches in Ligue 1, Coupe de France and the UEFA Europa Conference League.
THE TEAM NEWS

LILLE
Paulo Fonseca has several absentees for this weekend as the likes of Samuel Umtiti and Adam Ounas are among those sidelined by injury for Lille.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Chevalier; Santos, Diakite, Yoro, Ismaily; Bentaleb, Andre, Gomes; Zhegrova, David, Haraldsson
UNAVAILABLE: Ounas (Injured), Morais (Injured), Rafael Fernandes (Injured), Ilic (Injured), Umtiti (Injured)

THE PREDICTION
These have been two of the more effective teams in Ligue 1 as they challenge for a top three finish with both teams very difficult to beat, losing just five games apiece in the league. Brest, as mentioned, have been very difficult to even score against recently, whilst Lille have kept 21 clean sheets in all competitions this season. Given those respective defensive capabilities, as well as the fact they are two evenly matched sides, a low-scoring contest would appear likely for this one.
