THE LOWDOWN

WOLVES

Wolverhampton Wanderers, like their upcoming opposition, are still challenging for a potential top seven or eight finish as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table. They are just a point outside of the aforementioned top eight, which is a major upgrade on their pre-season expectations whereby they were tipped up for relegation.

The hosts come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with Burnley at Turf Moor in their most recent outing with Rayan Ait-Nouri equalising a few minutes after Jacob Bruun Larsen’s opening goal. That means the home team have managed just one win in their last five games across all competitions.

WEST HAM

West Ham United do have the added distraction of a UEFA Europa League quarter-final against Bundesliga league leaders Bayer Leverkusen in midweek. The Hammers have been improved in the last month or so as they try and challenge for a top seven or eight finish and potential European qualification, once again, this season.

West Ham come into this one on the back of sharing a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at the London Stadium on Tuesday evening. Brennan Johnson scored an early opener in that game before Kurt Zouma’s equaliser. The Irons have suffered just two defeats in their last eight matches across all competitions.

THE TEAM NEWS

WOLVES

Gary O’Neil has confirmed that both Craig Dawson and Hwang Hee-chan, who has come back way ahead of schedule, has returned to Wolves training this week.

Matheus Cunha recently returned from a hamstring injury, too, but the home team remain without key man, Portugal forward Pedro Neto.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-1-1): Sa; Kilman, Dawson, Toti; Semedo, Joao Gomes, Doyle, Lemina, Ait-Nouri; Sarabia; Matheus Cunha

UNAVAILABLE: Pedro Neto (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Dawson (Injured), Hwang (Injured)

WEST HAM

David Moyes has confirmed that, once again, Alphonse Areola, is unavailable for West Ham due to injury after being substituted off against Newcastle last weekend.

The Hammers could welcome back Moroccan international defender Nayef Ageurd this weekend but he will have to be assessed later on today.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Fabianski; Coufal, Mavropanos, Zouma, Emerson; Ward-Prowse, Soucek; Bowen, Paqueta, Kudus; Antonio

UNAVAILABLE: Areola (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Ageurd (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

The Premier League has been goal crazy this season and despite the fact that both of these teams are managed by coaches perceived to be more reactive and pragmatic, they have also lacked a fair bit of control and been quite entertaining on a fairly regular basis. Wolves’ 30 Premier League games have averaged three goals per game, whilst West Ham’s are well over three per game. As a result, goals could well be expected at Molineux.

TIP: OVER 2.5 GOALS
