Manchester United come into this on the back of a 2-2 draw at Camp Nou against Barcelona in the first-leg of their UEFA Europa League knockout playoff tie. The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last seven matches with just one loss in their last 18 matches across all competitions.
Erik ten Hag has performed extremely well with United now pushing to be involved in a title race but, at both Ajax and now with United, he has been criticised for not rotating his side to a very impressive degree.
With that in mind, Raphael Varane is expected to retain his starting berth, after being surprisingly rested at Elland Road last week and Lisandro Martinez has now had about ten days ago, due to a suspension for their UEFA Europa League match against Barcelona. The second-leg is this week and Varane will be viewed as pivotal for that.
Diogo Dalot will be considered as a rotational replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who was excellent against Barcelona the other night. Both Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw started with Shaw likely to move to left-back for this encounter against Leicester City in the Premier League.
In midfield, Marcel Sabitzer is likely to come into the team to be able to be rotated in for Fred. Sabitzer was also suspended for the aforementioned European tie and he is expected to play alongside Casemiro in midfield, with Bruno Fernandes in the midfield three.
Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek remain injured so any more rotation is unlikely, especially given that Scott McTominay is also a doubt for the match.
Marcus Rashford is arguably the most in-form player in England’s top-flight and, despite playing a lot of football in the last few months, is one of the few players who can’t really be rotated out, due to his importance. Ten Hag has the option to stick with Wout Weghorst as a link-up player or to use Alejandro Garnacho as well as Jadon Sancho in behind Rashford.
It is more likely that Weghorst starts so that Sancho or Garnacho can be used off the bench for impact later on in the game with both Antony and Anthony Martial missing from the squad due to injuries.
