THE LOWDOWN

TOTTENHAM

Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge of Tottenham Hotspur has produced some genuinely entertaining performances and results with the mood around the north London club being much better than in recent years but there is a real chance that they end up finishing outside of the top four, which would be a little underwhelming.

There is, though, a very strong chance that fifth place earns UEFA Champions League qualification as a result of the expanded 36-team competition next season giving an extra spot to the two best performing leagues in European competition this season. Manchester United can put the pressure on Spurs in this ‘run-in’, though, after they were hammered 3-0 by Fulham at Craven Cottage.

LUTON

It has been a genuinely remarkable and valiant display from Luton Town throughout what is their first ever Premier League campaign. The Hatters have, over the international break, moved out of the bottom three and the relegation places as a result of Nottingham Forest’s four-point deduction for breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules.

The visitors, with a small squad anyway, have been ravaged injuries throughout the campaign but have remained competitive in pretty much every fixture. They will be a little frustrated to have dropped points late on in matches with Bournemouth coming from 3-0 down to win 4-3 and Aston Villa scoring a late winner against them just this month.

THE TEAM NEWS

TOTTENHAM

Centre-back Micky van de Ven should return to the heart of defence after recovering from injury, while Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that all of his players who were on international duty have returned to the club unscathed.

Fraser Forster, Ryan Sessegnon and Manor Solomon are the only known absentees.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Bentancur, Sarr; Kulusevski, Maddison, Son; Richarlison

UNAVAILABLE: Forster (Injured), Sessegnon (Injured), Solomon (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

LUTON

Rob Edwards has been dealing with a really lengthy injury list throughout this campaign and Ireland international Chiedozie Ogbene will be unavailable for this weekend due to a hamstring issue.

The Hatters remain without key men such as Mads Andersen, Amari’i Bell, Marvelous Nakamba, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Elijah Adebayo, as well as club captain Tom Lockyer, who is still recovering from a cardiac arrest.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Kaminski; Burke, Mengi, Hashioka; Kabore, Clark, Barkley, Doughty; Townsend, Chong; Morris

UNAVAILABLE: Lockyer (Illness), Andersen (Injured), Osho (Injured), Johnson (Injured), Bell (Injured), Potts (Injured), Nakamba (Injured), Lokonga (Injured), Ogbene (Injured), Brown (Injured), Adebayo (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Doughty (Injured), Mpanzu (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Tottenham Hotspur have been winning games but fairly unconvincingly in recent months. They had to come from behind to win against both Brighton and Crystal Palace relatively recently and have suffered shock defeats to Wolves and Fulham. Luton have proven themselves to be a match for most, if not all, at times, in the division, but do lack a quality and cutting edge that could see them relegated. They will not ‘go for it’ against Spurs but transitional play and set-pieces, especially against an occasionally lax Spurs defence, could be effective ways of scoring. Spurs are still firm favourites, though, especially at home.

TIP: TOTTENHAM TO WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
