THE LOWDOWN

SOUTHAMPTON

  • Southampton saw their five-match unbeaten run in all competitions come to an end last time out as they were beaten 3-1 by Wolves at Molineux, leaving them embedded firmly in midtable.
  • Right-back Valentino Livramento is not expected to make a return from injury for this match, whilst the Saints are spoiled for choices on the striker front with Che Adams and Adam Armstrong both hoping for an opportunity up-front ahead of either Nathan Redmond or Armando Broja.

MAN CITY

  • Man City went marching on last Saturday as they overcame title rivals Chelsea 1-0 in a hard-fought victory at the Etihad Stadium, courtesy of a superb Kevin De Bruyne strike from distance.
  • Pep Guardiola has afforded Riyad Mahrez a week's holiday following his Africa Cup of Nations exertions with Algeria so he is unavailable for selection, as is full-back Oleksandr Zinchenko who is still nursing a knock.

THE PREDICTION

Whilst Southampton under Ralph Hasenhuttl have at times proven troublesome for Man City, having won one and drawn one of their last four Premier League meetings with the reigning champions, it looks a step too far expecting the Saints to derail what is looking like a runaway train at present. With an 11-point gap between themselves and second-placed Liverpool combined with a current run of 12 successive Premier League victories, Man City aren’t expected to slow down when taking into account both the sheer class and fighting spirit of their entire squad. With the perfect cocktail of offensive potency and defensive grit that has seen them not only score the most goals in this season’s top flight, but also concede the least, Guardiola’s men should have far too much quality for the hosts to handle and are expected to comfortably extend their winning run here.

Tip: MAN CITY TO WIN
