THE LOWDOWN
SHEFFIELD UTD
Sheffield United do still appear destined for an inevitable relegation straight back down to the Championship but The Blades showed some fight in their most recent outing as they defeated Luton Town by three goals to one at Kenilworth Road with goals from Cameron Archer, James McAtee and Vinicius Souza.
Under Paul Heckingbottom and then Chris Wilder, Sheffield United have been extremely leaky at the back throughout the campaign, letting in 60 goals in their 24 matches so far this season – that is ten more than anyone else in the Premier League. They begin the 25th match day of the campaign sitting seven points adrift of safety.
BRIGHTON
Brighton and Hove Albion have been one of the more entertaining teams to watch in England for the last 18 months or so, following the arrival of former Sassuolo and Shakhtar Donetsk boss Roberto De Zerbi. The Italian has overseen another impressive season for The Seagulls as they challenge for a top seven finish, despite having to balance domestic action with European commitments.
They do, though, come into this on the back of another heartbreaking defeat as they suffered a 2-1 loss away to Tottenham Hotspur due to a 96th minute Brennan Johnson winner after taking a 1-0 lead in the game. Their 24 matches in the Premier League so far this season have consisted of a combined total of 83 goals.
THE TEAM NEWS
SHEFFIELD UTD
After suffering a concussion on his debut against Crystal Palace a few weeks ago, Ivo Grbic is back available after serving a 12-day concussion protocol period and he is expected to replace Wes Foderingham in the Sheffield United goal.
Former Coventry City midfielder is a doubt but should be fine after he suffered a dead leg in their victory over Luton last weekend. Chris Wilder is hopeful on a couple of players potentially returning from injury, such as forward duo Ben Brereton Diaz and Oli McBurnie, whilst George Baldock could also be nearing a return for Blades.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Grbic; Holgate, Ahmedhodzic, Robinson; Bogle, Souza, Hamer, Osborn; McAtee, Brereton Diaz; Archer
UNAVAILABLE: Egan (Injured), Basham (Injured), Norrington-Davies (Injured), Jebbison (Illness)
QUESTIONABLE: Baldock (Injured), Hamer (Injured), Brereton Diaz (Injured), McBurnie (Injured)
BRIGHTON
Roberto De Zerbi has not conducted his pre-match press conference before the weekend so the following information could be subject to change as a result. What is well known is that The Seagulls will remain without the likes of James Milner and Solly March due to injury.
Jack Hinshelwood, Julio Enciso and Joao Pedro are all also expected to remain absent for De Zerbi's side, whilst it is unclear as to whether Ivorian forward Simon Adingra will return immediately to first-team duty after winning the Africa Cup of Nations last weekend.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Verbruggen; Lamptey, Van Hecke, Dunk, Estupinan; Gross, Gilmour; Buonanotte, Lallana, Mitoma; Welbeck
UNAVAILABLE: Milner (Injured), Hinshelwood (Injured), Enciso (Injured), March (Injured), Joao Pedro (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Adingra (International duty)
THE PREDICTION
Last month, Sheffield United were thrashed by five goals to two at Bramall Lane by Brighton and Hove Albion in the fourth round of the FA Cup. The home team were much-improved last weekend as they at least try to restore some pride between now and the end of the season. Brighton, on the other hand, will be looking to put their foot down on the throat once again. Back-to-back Blades victories would appear extremely unlikely and backing Brighton is the best bet for this one on Saturday afternoon.
TIP: BRIGHTON TO WIN
