THE LOWDOWN
NEWCASTLE
Newcastle United come into this one on the back of being knocked out of the FA Cup at the quarter-final stage with a 2-0 defeat away to reigning champions Manchester City with a brace scored by Portugal international midfielder Bernardo Silva in their most recent outing before the break a couple of weeks ago.
The Magpies have been underwhelming this season as they sit in mid-table but there is an expectation that they will still challenge for a top seven or eight finish and UEFA Europa Conference League qualification at least. Their 28 matches so far this season have consisted of a combined total 107 goals.
WEST HAM
Despite pressure remaining heavy on David Moyes’ head, West Ham United have enjoyed a generally impressive campaign as they begin the weekend’s round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the top seven and the European spots, as well as preparing for a UEFA Europa League quarter-final against Bayer Leverkusen in April.
The Hammers come into this one on the back of back-to-back draws at the London Stadium in the Premier League before the March international break. They fought back from 2-0 down to share a 2-2 draw with Burnley via a late Danny Ings equaliser before then sharing a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa a week later.

THE PREDICTION
This is a big game in the hunt for European football. There is plenty going on across the division but the chase for a top seven or eight finish could also heat up in the final few weeks of the campaign. Newcastle have turned in some excellent displays this season but consistency has been missing. West Ham are also a little difficult to read with a fair bit of inconsistency of their own. What does seem likely is that an open Newcastle side welcoming a good-on-the-counter Hammers team should provide goals.
