THE LOWDOWN

MAN CITY

  • A last-gasp penalty from substitute Erling Haaland handed Man City all three points against a game Fulham side last weekend, which kept the pressure on Arsenal at the top of the table.
  • Despite that goal and the fact he was on the bench for the League Cup victory over Chelsea midweek, Pep Guardiola remained coy over Haaland’s involvement here, but Joao Cancelo is definitely available after serving his suspension in the cup.

BRENTFORD

  • It has been a somewhat deflating week for Brentford, who conceded an injury-time equaliser to Nottingham Forest last Saturday before going on to lose on penalties to Gillingham in the League Cup on Tuesday.
  • Ivan Toney returns to the Premier League side after his one-match ban while Vitaly Janelt has recovered from a minor muscular complaint that kept him out of action midweek.

THE PREDICTION

Brentford’s worrying dip in form – no wins in their last five in all competitions – is hardly ideal preparation for them to face the winning machine that is Man City. The reigning champions left it until the death to secure maximum points against Fulham last weekend, but they are unlikely to be so complacent this time around. Guardiola’s side can go top – if only temporarily – with a win here and given that Brentford are struggling for results right now, the hosts are capable of wrapping this up early. Their only obstacle could be the fact that some of their star men may have one eye on the imminent World Cup, but it is difficult to look past a comprehensive victory.

TIP: MAN CITY TO WIN TO NIL
