THE LOWDOWN

BRIGHTON

Brighton and Hove Albion have endured a tougher campaign this time around with injury issues, inconsistency and the added football in the UEFA Europa League but the Seagulls have remained relatively strong as they remain in contention for a top seven or eight finish and potential European qualification.

They come into this one on the back of a fairly unusual occurrence as they shared a goalless draw against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Wednesday evening. That fairly frustrating draw against out of form and struggling opposition means they have managed just two victories in their last eight matches across all competitions.

ARSENAL

In the calendar year of 2024, Arsenal have been magnificent in the Premier League with nine victories and a draw in their ten matches this year. The Gunners are beginning this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just a couple of points behind Liverpool at the top-of-the-table as we head into the Premier League ‘run-in’.

The north Londoners come into this one on the back of a comfortable 2-0 defeat of Luton Town at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening with two first-half goals; the first being scored by Martin Odegaard and then an own goal by Daiki Hashioka made it two. They have scored 35 goals in their ten matches in the league so far this season.

THE TEAM NEWS

BRIGHTON

Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed that Brighton have two new fresh injury concerns as defender Adam Webster and striker Evan Ferguson will be unavailable for this weekend.

They join a long injury list that includes the likes of Jack Hinshelwood, James Milner, Billy Gilmour, Solly March and Japanese international winger Kaoru Mitoma.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Verbruggen; Lamptey, Van Hecke, Dunk, Estupinan; Gross, Baleba; Enciso, Lallana, Adingra; Joao Pedro

UNAVAILABLE: Webster (Injured), Milner (Injured), Hinshelwood (Injured), Gilmour (Injured), March (Injured), Mitoma (Injured), Ferguson (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

ARSENAL

Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Bukayo Saka could return this weekend after missing the midweek clash with Luton but he will have be assessed just before the game.

Other than the still injured Netherlands international defender Jurrien Timber, the Gunners’ boss confirmed that everyone else ‘seems ok’ after their defeat of Luton.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): David Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Kiwior; Odegaard, Jorginho, Rice; Trossard, Gabriel Jesus, Martinelli

UNAVAILABLE: Timber (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Saka (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Both in terms of the underlying data and the actual defensive record of Arsenal, the visitors have been almost impeccable at the back, as shown by an impressive display at the Etihad Stadium in a goalless draw last weekend. Having said that, though, Brighton will surely come steaming out of the traps, especially at the AMEX Stadium. Arsenal do remain favourites but both teams scoring would appear like a decent bet, too.

TIP: ARSENAL TO WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
