THE LOWDOWN

BRENTFORD

Thomas Frank said his side can be ‘one of the best defensive teams in the league’ after their impressive 2-0 defeat of Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux last weekend. The Bees have struggled to find the same sort of form that has made them so feared in recent seasons in the Premier League, often being viewed as more of a soft touch this season.

However, players returning from injury such as Ben Mee and Christian Norgaard, finding some excellent form, such as Nathan Collins, new signings like Sergio Reguilon and, of course, Ivan Toney coming back from suspension, has helped Brentford majorly improve in the last three or four weeks as they attempt to propel themselves away from the bottom three and the relegation places.

LIVERPOOL

Liverpool are still pushing for a quadruple this season as they begin the weekend sitting at the top-of-the-table in the Premier League, as well as preparing for the EFL Cup final next weekend against Chelsea at the Wembley Stadium with an FA Cup fifth round tie after that and then the UEFA Europa League knockout stages next month.

The Reds recovered from their 3-1 defeat away to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium earlier this month by producing an eventually comfortable 3-1 victory over Burnley at Anfield last weekend. Their front three of Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez scored in that game to mean they have now notched 55 times in 24 matches so far this season.

THE TEAM NEWS

BRENTFORD

Thomas Frank has confirmed that Brentford have no fresh injury concerns for this weekend's visit of Liverpool and he has also been able to welcome back some key players from international duty as both Frank Onyeka and Yoane Wissa return from the Africa Cup of Nations.

The west Londoners do, though, remain without several first-team players as the likes of Rico Henry and Bryan Mbeumo have been joined on the sidelines by former Arsenal midfielder, Josh Dasilva, this week.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Flekken; Collins, Pinnock, Mee; Roerslev, Jensen, Norgaard, Janelt, Reguilon; Toney, Maupay

UNAVAILABLE: Henry (Injured), Hickey (Injured), Dasilva (Injured), Mbeumo (Injured), Schade (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

LIVERPOOL

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Mohamed Salah is in full training and back in contention to play this weekend after missing the last few weeks due to an injury he sustained playing for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has had a knee injury confirmed that will keep him out for the next few weeks but Conor Bradley is set to return from compassionate leave. Ibrahima Konate also returns from suspension for The Reds.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Jones; Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota

UNAVAILABLE: Matip (Injured), Alexander-Arnold (Injured), Bajcetic (Injured) Thiago (Injured), Szoboszlai (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Gomez (Illness)

THE PREDICTION

As mentioned, Brentford have found themselves entering into a bit of form of late and they will be confident of actually taking the game to Liverpool once again. In this fixture last season, Brentford defeated Liverpool by three goals to one and Thomas Frank’s side have made a habit of bloodying the nose of more fancied opposition. Liverpool remain favourites and have had the luxury of two midweeks without football this month so should be fresh, too. An entertaining away win would seem in store.

TIP: LIVERPOOL TO WIN & OVER 2.5 GOALS
