THE LOWDOWN

ARSENAL

  • Premier League league leaders Arsenal come into this London derby on the back of being knocked out of the UEFA Europa League at the Round of 16 stage on penalties by Sporting CP. The Gunners will now shift their focus fully onto winning the top-flight title for the first time since 2004.
  • William Saliba is nursing an injury and could miss out here, which would likely mean a start for Rob Holding at centre back, while Takehiro Tomiyasu looks to have a serious injury that will rule him out for some time.

CRYSTAL PALACE

  • On Friday morning, Patrick Vieira was sacked by Crystal Palace. The Frenchman oversaw a poor run of Eagles form whereby they haven’t won a game in 2023 and were beaten 1-0 by arch-rivals Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday evening.
  • Teenage goalkeeper Joe Whitworth looks likely to start in goal again with first-choice Vicente Guaita seemingly unlikely to recover from injury for this one, while Albert Sambi Lokonga is ineligible.

THE TEAM NEWS

ARSENAL

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Ramsdale; White, Holding, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Partey, Odegaard, Xhaka; Saka, Trossard, Martinelli

UNAVAILABLE: Tomiyasu (Injured), Elneny (Injured), Nketiah (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Saliba (Injured)

CRYSTAL PALACE

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Whitworth; Clyne, Anderson, Guehi, Mitchell; Eze, Doucoure, Schlupp; Olise, Edouard, Zaha

UNAVAILABLE: Johnstone (Injured), Lokonga (Ineligible)

QUESTIONABLE: Guaita (Injured), Ferguson (Fitness), Hughes (Illness), McArthur (Illness)

THE PREDICTION

Mikel Arteta has implemented a strong mentality within the Arsenal squad and it will be expected that The Gunners bounce back in this match. The home team have the opportunity to take advantage of Manchester City not playing due to FA Cup commitments so they could stretch their lead at the top-of-the-table to eight points. Whilst Crystal Palace may benefit from the cliche of ‘new manager bounce’, they are simply a bad team that have been bad all year and now travel to the league leaders. Any ‘new manager bounce’ may be gained after the international break but not in this one.

TIP: ARSENAL TO WIN
