THE TEAM NEWS

BRAZIL

  • Brazil were able to overcome the loss of Gabriel Jesus just a few minutes into the second half of their contest with Chile as the Brazilians booked their spot in the last four of the Copa America.
  • After a goalless first half, Lucas Paqueta was introduced at the break and he made an immediate impact to fire his side ahead but the euphoria of that goal did not last long with Manchester City forward Jesus given his marching orders just a couple of minutes later.
  • He produced a terrible challenge and was given a straight red so will be missing for this semi-final and having proven to be the match winner against Chile, Paqueta will hope that he has done enough to earn a spot in the starting XI.

PERU

  • Peru got the better of Paraguay in a sensational Copa America quarter-final clash which needed penalties to determine the winner but they have it all to do if they are to progress to the final.
  • Having gone behind early on, the Peruvians went into the break at half-time thanks to an own goal and an effort from Gianluca Lapadula. Paraguay did level the scores before Yoshimar Yotun looked to have sealed the win until a last-gasp strike levelled things.
  • Miguel Trauco was the hero as he converted the winning penalty to separate the teams but Peru must overcome the loss of Andre Carrillo to suspension after he was given his marching orders late into last week’s clash.

THE PREDICTION

Brazil will be confident of booking their spot in the Copa America final as they take on Peru but they could come unstuck if they do not improve on their last few outings. They have failed to hit the same level of performance in which they started the tournament and having played almost a full half with ten men last time out, they almost succumbed to a shock loss. Peru on the other hand did a great job to see off Paraguay, albeit via a penalty shootout, and they too will believe that they can cause a huge upset here. However, Brazil were 3-0 winners when the pair met in the group stage and while it could be closer this time out, Peru are still expected to fall short.
