THE LOWDOWN

WESTERLO

Under the management of Jonas De Roeck, Westerlo begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom four and the relegation places with just two victories in their 15 matches so far this season. Nicknamed ‘De Kamphanen’, Westerlo are suffering from ‘second season syndrome’ after an impressive season last year, following promotion in 2022.

What has remained consistent, though, is their high-scoring and entertaining tendencies with their 15 matches producing 49 goals so far this season. Of those 15 games, with ten of those matches featuring both teams scoring. They were beaten by three goals to two by Charleroi last weekend with a winner coming in the 96th minute.

ANDERLECHT

Coached by former Brentford assistant, Brian Riemer, Anderlecht are looking set to genuinely challenge for the Belgian title this season after a few seasons of falling away and underperforming. The Brussels club have closed the gap to their capital city rivals, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, to just four points at the top-of-the-table.

They come into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat of Racing White Daring Molenbeek in their most recent outing, last weekend, following on from the November international break. They have now collected ten points from their last four matches as they try and challenge Union SG with an impressive record of just 16 goals conceded in 15 matches so far.

THE PREDICTION

As mentioned, Westerlo have been very entertaining and high-scoring throughout the season, despite their below par form as they struggle down at the bottom end of the table. That has increased recently, too, with their last five matches in all competitions consisting of 21 goals. They now face an Anderlecht side that have notched 29 times so far, with only Union SG and Antwerp managing more than them in the league. Given that, a high-scoring Anderlecht victory is the expected outcome of this one.

BETTING TIP: ANDERLECHT TO WIN & OVER 2.5 GOALS
