THE PREDICTION

The Hungarians began their campaign with a 3-0 defeat to Germany and, similar to fellow hosts Slovenia, if it wasn’t for the fact that they have the hosting duties then they probably wouldn’t have qualified for the tournament. The squad is inexperienced and results have been consistently poor; their opening match saw them get to half-time goalless but they finished the match with just 28% possession and just two shots in comparison to Germany’s 18. They come up against a Romania side who are slightly worse off going forward than they were in 2019 but they remain defensively resolute. An opening match point against a star-studded Dutch side has given them a huge opportunity in this group. Ironically, Romania also managed only 28% possession but in comparison to Hungary, they had 14 shots on the opposition goal. As mentioned, the lack of real attacking efficiency and talent could cost them moving forward but they should defeat Hungary.
