England vs India prediction

For the third time in a row, England and India collide in the semi-finals of this tournament with this being the rubber match after England won back in 2022 at the Adelaide Oval, before India got their revenge in Guyana almost two years ago. The winners of those two semi-finals ended up going on and lifting the trophy on each occasion, emphasising the importance of this next memorable duel between two giants of the cricketing world. India almost didn’t make it here after losing to South Africa in their first match of the Super 8s. But Suryakumar Yadav’s side held their nerve to win the next two, most recently edging past West Indies by five wickets in a winner-take-all contest. Sanju Samson’s amazing 97 not out helped India chase down 196 with only four balls to spare, thrilling the home fans.

Over in Sri Lanka, England have clicked into gear and are playing some of their best white ball cricket for a long time. Conditions certainly suited the bowling of England and their multiple spin-options in particular, all of whom capitalised whilst key batters stepped up when required despite Jos Buttler’s recent struggle to score runs. However, after winning three matches in Sri Lanka, they must now return to India and Mumbai, where they were beaten by 30 runs at the hands of West Indies back in the group stage, their only defeat of the competition so far. We may well see another really close battle here and a run chase that goes the distance regardless of who wins the toss.

As well as England have played, they are yet to prove themselves against the truly elite opposition like South Africa and India, which was shown when they lost to West Indies. India have already fought through one elimination game and with both a deep batting line-up alongside the world class skills of Jasprit Bumrah with the ball, not to mention the home crowd, it’s them who should be backed to defeat England.
